Meta Rights Manager for Facebook and Instagram

Your videos, clips and photos get re-posted on Facebook and Instagram every day, often by pages with bigger audiences than yours. Rights Manager finds those copies automatically. We set it up and run it, so every match is blocked, credited to you or earning for you.

The basics

What Rights Manager is, and how access works.

Rights Manager is Meta’s tool for people and companies who own content. You add reference files, which can be videos, audio, images or even a live feed while the broadcast is still running, and Meta checks new posts on Facebook and Instagram against them. When something matches, your rules decide what happens next.

Access isn’t automatic. You apply through a Facebook Page, describe the rights you hold and Meta reviews the application. The exact set of tools you get depends on what kind of rights holder you are and where you are based.

Once you’re in, the real work starts: building good references, choosing sensible rules and dealing with matches and disputes every week. Done badly, it either misses most copies or upsets legitimate partners. We make sure it does neither.

Features

What Rights Manager can do.

Each reference file gets a match rule and an action. These are the building blocks we work with.

Video, audio and image matching

Protect whole programmes, short clips, music and photos. Meta compares new posts on both platforms with your references, and match rules decide when a match should lead to an action, so a few seconds of footage can be treated differently from a full re-upload.

Ownership links

Instead of removing a copy, you can attach a link to your Page. The post stays up, but viewers see where the content really comes from.

Ad earnings

Where available, you can collect the ad earnings from videos that use your content, so popular re-posts start paying you.

Blocking and manual review

Block matching posts in the cases Meta allows, or hold matches for review so a person decides. Monitoring mode just shows you where your content appears.

Live video protection

Use your live feed as a reference while the event is still on air, so pirated restreams can be found and acted on during the broadcast, not after it.

Takedown reports and disputes

For any match you can file a takedown report. If an uploader disputes your action, you uphold it, release it or escalate to a takedown, within Meta’s deadline.

For large publishers

Why it matters for large publishers.

Facebook and Instagram are where a lot of video gets discovered, and also where a lot of it gets taken. Rights Manager lets you decide which of those outcomes you get.

01

Credit for your work

Ownership links turn other pages’ re-posts into a route back to your own Page, building your audience instead of theirs.

02

Revenue from re-posts

Collecting ad earnings means a viral copy of your clip can earn for you rather than for the page that took it.

03

Exclusives and live events protected

Block copies of new and premium content, and catch restreams of live events while they are still happening.

04

One approach for two platforms

The same references and rules cover Facebook and Instagram, so you don’t have to report copies on each platform separately.

05

Brand safety

Keep your content off pages you don’t want to be associated with, such as clickbait or misleading accounts.

06

Less manual reporting

Automatic matching replaces reporting posts one by one, freeing your team for work that needs a person.

FAQ

Questions we often get.

Who can get access to Rights Manager?

Rights holders of many sizes, from individual creators to media companies, sports organisations and music labels. You apply through a Facebook Page and describe the rights you hold. Meta looks at whether your content is eligible, how large your catalogue is and whether it has been copied before, and then decides. We help you prepare a strong application.

Does it cover Instagram as well as Facebook?

Yes. Rights Manager finds matches on both Facebook and Instagram, and the same references and rules apply to both.

Can we earn money from copies of our videos?

Often, yes. The ad earnings action lets you collect revenue from ads on videos that use your content. Whether it’s available depends on your account, your location and the matched video.

Why not simply block everything?

Meta only allows automatic blocking in certain cases, and blocking is not always the best result anyway. For older content or short clips, an ownership link or ad earnings can be worth more than a removed post.

We already use YouTube Content ID. Is this the same thing?

No, they are separate systems with their own references and rules. We run both together, so your content is treated consistently on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

Do you only work with companies in Slovakia?

No. We are based in Bratislava and work with clients across Slovakia, the Czech Republic and the rest of Europe, in English or Slovak.
